How Apex works today, in plain words.

Apex is a test, not medical advice. See a doctor about any injury or health condition.

Getting started

Apex is invite only. Open the invitation email you were sent and create your account from there.

Already have an account? Sign in.

Setup is six steps. Each one is saved as you go, so if you stop partway, sign in again and you'll pick up where you left off.

  1. Step 1 · Consent

Read the statement of what Apex stores and what it sends to its AI provider to write your brief. Tick the box to agree. A second box, about a record of how you use Apex, is optional.

  2. Step 2 · Authorization

Read the authorization to share your health information, and sign it by typing your full name and today's date. You can download your copy as soon as you sign.

  3. Step 3 · Goal

Pick what you're training for: basketball, running, lifting or physique, or type your own sport.

  4. Step 4 · Details

Set your target: what you're chasing, a number if it has one, and the date you want it by. Your height and weight are optional.

  5. Step 5 · Constraints

Tell Apex where you train, then add anything injured, or skip that part. Your brief only names equipment and places you have, and works around injuries.

  6. Step 6 · Wearable

Connect WHOOP, or choose Connect later and log by hand.

Your first brief is written as soon as you finish, whatever the hour. It usually takes two to three minutes, and /brief updates by itself while you wait.

When Apex is using your WHOOP data for your briefs, it reads your last seven days from WHOOP first. Otherwise, as when you chose Connect later, your first brief has no reading to go on, and says so. That is the product working, not failing.

After that, you get a new brief once a day, some time after 8am your time.

Questions

What can I change after setup?

Your goal, from Goal on your dashboard. Where you train, from Training setup on your dashboard. Your authorization, from Training setup too. If no wearable is connected, your dashboard offers Connect WHOOP. Until your authorization is signed, you can't change your goal or where you train, log by hand, or connect WHOOP.

Injuries can only be added during setup for now.

Which wearable works with Apex?

WHOOP. It's the only wearable Apex supports today. Connect it at the last step of setup, or later from your dashboard.

Apex asks WHOOP for read access only, and never posts anything to your WHOOP account. When Apex is using your WHOOP data for your briefs, before it writes your brief each day, Apex fetches your last seven days from WHOOP.

What Apex sends to its AI provider is in the consent statements, printed in full at the end of this page.

Can I use Apex without a wearable?

Yes. Log your recovery and sleep at /log.

Log before 8am your time to be sure it counts for that day's brief. Your brief is written some time after 8am from whatever is saved by then, and it doesn't change once it's written. An entry logged later still reaches your next briefs, which read your last seven days.

One entry per day: saving the same date again updates it. You need recovery, sleep or both. A note on its own isn't enough. You can log a past day, but not a future one.

When Apex is using your WHOOP data for your briefs, if WHOOP has a reading for the same day, your brief uses WHOOP's and reads your entry alongside it.

What does the recovery number mean?

It's your own score for how recovered you feel: a whole number from 0 to 100, where higher means more recovered. Your brief is told you logged it yourself, and treats it just as seriously as a number a strap measured.

Sleep is hours, with at most one decimal place, like 7.5.

When does my brief arrive?

Once a day, some time after 8am in your timezone. If a day's brief hasn't been written by 8pm your time, it's skipped rather than delivered late.

Your first brief is the exception: it's written as soon as you finish setup.

Why after 8am, and why skip after 8pm?

Your brief is written from last night's data, so Apex waits until your night is over.

A brief that fails can still arrive later in the day, because Apex keeps checking until 8pm. After 8pm it stops: a brief for a day that's nearly over isn't worth your attention, so your next one is tomorrow's.

Is my brief emailed?

No. Email isn't built yet. Your brief lives in the app, at /brief. Bookmark it. Past briefs are at /brief/archive.

What if my brief doesn't come through?

/brief tells you the write failed on Apex's side, and offers Try again when a retry can help.

Your logs and your WHOOP readings are untouched.

If you haven't signed your authorization, or you revoked it, Apex writes no brief until you sign it at /authorization.

If Apex's statement changes what it sends to its AI provider, or why, Apex writes no brief until you agree to the new statement at /brief.

What if I travel?

Your timezone is the one your browser reports when you open Apex. Open Apex once in the new timezone and your brief follows you.

What does "No reading for today" mean?

Apex has no reading for today: nothing logged for today and, when Apex is using your WHOOP data for your briefs, nothing from WHOOP for last night. Your brief says so at the top, and it is told to hold back: no tests and no all-out efforts on a day it can't see.

LAST READING · N DAYS AGO, or LAST LOGGED · N DAYS AGO, means the freshest reading Apex has is that old. Your brief treats it as background, not as today's truth, and holds back the same way.

WEARABLE · THIS MORNING and YOU LOGGED THIS mean your brief has a reading for today. When Apex is using your WHOOP data for your briefs, if WHOOP has your sleep but no recovery score yet when your brief is written, that night doesn't count as today's reading.

To get a reading, log at /log before 8am. When Apex is using your WHOOP data for your briefs, you can also wear WHOOP overnight so your night reaches WHOOP before your brief is written.

The figures in the grid on your brief come straight from your data. The model that writes the words can't put a figure there.

How do I change my goal?

Open Goal on your dashboard. Apex holds one goal at a time, so a new goal replaces the old one.

Briefs you already have don't change. Each one keeps the goal it was written for.

Your next brief says it's the first for your new goal, and doesn't mention the old one. If you only moved the date or the target figure, it says the target was updated.

What happens to today's brief if I change my goal?

If today's brief is already written, it stays as it is, and your new goal starts with tomorrow's. If it isn't written yet, today's brief is written for your new goal. After 8pm your time, your new goal starts with tomorrow's.

If it's being written right now, the goal page asks you to wait a few minutes before saving. The goal page tells you which before you save, and again after.

If your briefs are paused, your new goal starts with the first brief after they resume.

How do I revoke my authorization?

On the Authorization page, /authorization, which Training setup on your dashboard links to. Press Revoke, then confirm.

It takes effect the moment you confirm: Apex starts no new brief, no new WHOOP pull and no new sending to its AI provider for you. A brief or a pull already running may finish.

You can also revoke by email, using the contact below. Apex records an emailed revocation on the day it arrives, and that day's brief may still be written before it does.

Revoking doesn't delete your account or your data: that's a separate request, below. You can sign again at any time to start again.

Where's my signed copy?

On the Authorization page, /authorization: Download your copy. Training setup on your dashboard links to it too.

You're offered it the moment you sign. It's a web page: open it in your browser to read it, print it or save it as a PDF.

How do I delete my data?

There's no delete button yet. Message the founder, using the contact below, and ask for your account to be deleted.

The founder does it by hand, so it isn't instant. Your sign-in is blocked first. Deleting removes your account and everything Apex keeps about you in its database, including your goal, injuries, logs, WHOOP data and briefs, and then your sign-in.

If you connected WHOOP, Apex asks WHOOP to withdraw its access. You can also remove Apex from your WHOOP account yourself.

Some copies are out of Apex's reach: database backups, until they expire; what was sent to the AI provider to write each brief; and your data at WHOOP itself.

Some things are kept on purpose, including a record that your account was deleted and the copies of your data made while preparing the deletion (in a trial run, and again just before deleting), held by the founder. Each copy is kept 30 days, then deleted.

What does Apex cost?

Nothing. Apex is a pilot, and there's nothing to pay. It never asks for a card.

This is the statement Apex asks you to agree to at setup, version 1.3.

I am 18 or older. I understand that Apex uses AI to write my daily coaching brief.

Apex stores: the email address I signed up with; my time zone; a record of each version of this statement I agree to, with the date, time and IP address of each agreement; my goal, and each change I make to it; my height and weight, and whether I use metric or imperial units; any injuries I record and what I write about them; where I train and what equipment I have; each brief Apex writes for me; and, if I connect WHOOP, my recovery, sleep, strain, workouts, heart-rate variability and resting heart rate — together with the complete unedited response WHOOP returns, which Apex keeps so my data can be reprocessed later. If I log by hand, Apex stores the recovery and sleep I enter, and anything I write in the notes.

To write each brief, Apex sends to its AI provider: today's date and my time zone; my goal as I entered it; my height and weight, and whether I use metric or imperial units; my injuries and what I write about them; where I train and what I write about my equipment; the recovery, sleep, strain, workout, heart-rate-variability and resting-heart-rate figures above, for today and the seven days before, together with anything I write in the notes when I log by hand; and the previous day's brief. The complete unedited WHOOP response is not sent. Neither are my email address or my IP address.

Apex also asks this, optionally, at setup or on Training setup:

I agree that Apex may keep a record of the days I open its Brief, Archive, Help and Log pages, and of each time I change my training setup.

For those pages, the record holds only the date and which page it was: not the time, and nothing I read or write there. For a training-setup change, it holds when I saved it and whether I changed where I train, my equipment note, or both, but never what I wrote.

Apex keeps this record in its own database, to see how testers use Apex during this pilot. It is not sent to Apex's AI provider. Apex uses no outside analytics or session-recording tool.

Saying no changes nothing else: my brief is written either way. I can stop this record at any time on Training setup, or by asking Apex, and it is then deleted. It is also deleted with my account.
